Wanko Soba 100+ bowls challenge!
So ready for the "Wanko Soba" challenge! The goal is to eat more than 100 bowls.
A 20-year-old working holiday visa holder Taylan arrives from Germany to spend six months in Japan. He loves Japanese food and is hoping to try Ramen, Takoyaki, Okonomiyaki and more during his stay. But on top of everything he would like to challenge to eat more than 100 bowls of "Wanko Soba" which he has seen the video of online. Will he make it???
Isn't it too much eating on the day before the "Wanko Soba" challenge?
The day before the "Wanko Soba" challenge Taylan meets up with the crew in Shibuya. He checks out the restaurants along the streets but the one that's caught his eyes the most is the all-you-can-eat 26 kinds of Tempura for 2 hours for 1,980 yen, "Gachi Shibuya Center Street Branch". 5 kinds of Tempura such as shrimp, squid and eggplant are served to start off then more additions such as asparagus and pineapple, he's ended up eating 20 kinds of them in total! Still only 35% of his stomach has been filled he says...All-you-can-eat tempura Gachi Shibuya Center Street Branch

Are you still going to eat? Sushi to follow!
Taylan's stomach isn't still full yet he's decided to visit a kaitenzushi restaurant. He is a non-stop eater he's finished 20 plates which contains 40 pieces of sushi! That's 20 kinds of tempura and 20 plates of sushi in total, well done! It looks promising that he would win the "Wanko Soba" challenge tomorrow...
What is the trick to complete 100 bowls of soba that he's come up with?
Taylan arrives in Morioka the following day. He visits the restaurant he has been researched beforehand, "Azumaya". The trick he has come up with to complete 100 bowls of "Wanko Soba" is to eat in rush before the sense of fullness is experienced, the method that often used by food fighters. By the way a bowl contains 13 grams of soba and 15 of them is considered as the standard amount of 1 person's meal.
Wanko Soba used to be served to entertain people.
Once you finish eating the 13 grams of soba in a bowl the server next to you will slide in another one. When you're done you will need to slide the lid on your bowl but if even only a little bit is left the another one is slide in. Apparently the average number of bowls that an adult male can eat is about 60, but there is someone who has just completed 101 of them at another table!
The maximum number of bowls a female has eaten is 570??
The challenge has began! While the server praises Taylan for his way of eating soba, he completes the 58 bowls in 3 minutes! It looks it's promising that he'd complete the adult male's average of 60 bowls with no problems. Apparently the maximum numbers of bowls completed here in this restaurant are 500 by a male and 570 by a female!
The pace gets decreased all of sudden...
It started off pretty good but after the 65th bowls or so Taylan started to slow down. At his 88th bowl he gets very close to give up, but the server cheers him up to hang on. The pace starts to come back as soon as he has loosened his belt. Almost there!!
Struggling but almost there!!
He seems to be in pain completing the bowl one by one but finally he's done it! He has completed 100 bowls! He's relieved he's actually forgotten to slide the lid to show the server that he is done, now he has to complete the 101st bowl… He actually thought the server was trying to kill him. Congrats on achieving the goal!Azumaya Ekimae Branch
