18-year-old Johanna visits her 22-year-old brother Frederik who lives in Japan on a working holiday visa. Johanna is interested in taking a hitchhiking trip that Fredrik has taken in the past so they've decided to go on a 3-week holiday together.

    Day 1 (Takamatsu)

    Day 1 (Takamatsu)

The final destination is Hiroshima. We were supposed to follow the trip for about 800km from Tokyo to Hiroshima but Frederik and Johanna has ended up traveling to Takamatsu first with their friends. It'll be shorter than expected but anyway the trip has began!

Day 1 (Takamatsu to Kotohira), magic #1

Only after 5 minutes of standing with a board in their hands they find a driver who can take them to Kotohira which is about 30km away from Takamatsu. Apparently the driver's son who was sitting next to her insisted they should help so they came back.

They have set up a rule of the trip to take the recommendations they receive from the drivers. This time the driver's recommendation is the local specialty "Udon" served at the restaurant "Toraya" located in the building that is 400 years old. Frederik seems happy tasting the Udon with a large shrimp tempura!

Their stomachs are filled now it's time for hitchhiking again and they find another driver after only 5 minutes! The driver, Rena, has driven them for about 30km from Kotohira to Toyohama, and this time her recommendation is the local specialty, pear. Frederik and Johanna have enjoyed the ice cream made of it.

Frederik and Johanna have enjoyed the desert and began hitchhiking and again, after only 3 minutes they find another car! The drivers are on their way home from golfing and the beach but kindly drive them from Toyohama to Niihama for about 40km. They’ve all hit it off and enjoyed the karaoke party along the way!

Day 2 (Niihama to Matsuyama), magic #4

They must have a very good luck that they've traveled 100km only in 1 day! Any it continues even without trying hard, they find another driver to drive them to Matsuyama while enjoying the local bath! It's too kind and smooth that Frederik finally starts laughing. Kato-san is a big fan of the show and has decided to give them a ride for about 65km to Dogo onsen, Matsuyama even though he is local to Niihama.

    Day 2 (Matsuyama)

    Day 2 (Matsuyama)

Dogo onsen (hot spring) is one of the oldest onsen in Japan with a history of 3,000 years. Kato-san's recommendation is the Dogo Yuzukiyaki (pottery) experience. And the farewell all of sudden… Their destination is Hiroshima but they've decided that they've had enough experiences meeting with kind and fun people hitchhiking and take a ferry from Shikoku to Hiroshima to end their trip.
