世界で最も美しいと言われる『ウルビーノ聖書』はイタリアで特別に芸術活動が盛んだった15世紀後半に作られたもの。
フィレンツェの著名な工房の職人が羊皮紙に聖書の文字を書き写し、金箔をふんだんに使って、色鮮やかな挿絵を描いている。

The Urbinate Bible, called the most beautiful bible in the world, was created in the latter half of the fifteenth century, when artistic activities had achieved a superb level in Italy. Craftsmen working at a famous atelier in Florence calligraphed the text onto parchment and made lavish use of gold leaf in creating the colorful illustrations.
