1582年に長崎を出発した4人の少年使節は3年の航海の後、ローマで大歓迎され教皇グレゴリウス13世に謁見。その後イタリア各地を回る。バチカン図書館所蔵の手紙はベネチア共和国に宛てたもので、歴史の一コマを表す文書となっている。

In 1582, four young Japanese envoys set sail from Nagasaki. Three years later they reached Rome, where they were granted an audience with Pope Gregory XIII and later traveled throughout Italy. This letter in the Vatican Library addressed to the Republic of Venice is an important historical document related to these events.
