    Miriam works as a nurse in Germany and is on a five-week holiday to travel Japan. Because her parents told her how great Japan is based on their experience of traveling and because she practiced Judo when she was little, she'd been interested in and dreaming of visiting Japan.

    Miriam is planning on taking a short 2-week Japanese lesson in the beginning of her holiday to go on a solo trip from Hokkaido to the south. When we interviewed her the only words she knew was "Konnichiwa" and "Arigato".

    The staff meets Miriam again at EF Tokyo in Shibuya. There are about 90 students from 25 different countries at the school now. They teach calligraphy in a class, it looks all exciting!
    One of the reasons of studying Japanese is because she has this image that Japanese don't speak English so well. She wants to learn it so that she'll be able to communicate with the local people while traveling.

    Miriam arrives at the starting point, Susukino, Sapporo by train from Tokyo. She is all excited about using her Japanese skill for the first time but the hotel she booked has many foreign guests and provides full English service…

    Miriam so cannot wait to use her Japanese skill. Getting lost along the way to "Sapporo City Clock Tower" it is her chance to ask directions in Japanese! But the person she asks is fluent in English… He kindly takes her to the "Sapporo City Clock Tower" by himself and her mission's completed!

    Miriam decides to go into a Ramen shop. She is hoping to speak Japanese here but no way the menu is in English!! When does she ever get a chance…??

    This is Miriam's first Ramen experience! "The more I eat, the more delicious it gets", she seemed to like it very much that she didn't even leave any soup left!

    Miriam's stomach's filled now she's going to her next destination, "Sapporo TV Tower". She arrives without getting lost but has no opportunity yet to speak Japanese that the reception provides the service in English. She's discovered that Japanese people speak English pretty well. But it's only the beginning of her trip and there will be many opportunities along the way for sure! Enjoy the trip!
