Visiting Japan on honeymoon to experience a real okonomiyaki.

We've had an opportunity to interview Taylor and Annie who have come to Japan on their honeymoon from the U.S. This is their first time to visit Japan but Annie speaks Japanese well after studying for 4 years. She's so adorable nodding her head "Un! Un!" whenever she means "Yes! Yes!". One day they got to know about okonomiyaki on the internet and decided to cook it on their own, and immidiately fell in love! Ever since then they've been cooking okonomiyaki at least once a week. They have chosen Japan for their honeymoon location to experience a real okonomiyaki, and after a long, careful research they've decided that they would like to visit "Mizuno" in Osaka which seems to be known as the best okonomiyaki restaurant in Osaka. Let's follow these love birds!

This long-established okonomiyaki restaurant "Mizuno" is chosen by Michelin 3 years in a row.

    This long-established okonomiyaki restaurant

The next morning we meet up with Taylor and Annie in Osaka. After months of research they don't even have to look at a map to find where the restaurant is located! The restaurant "Mizuno" has been listed in Michelin guide book 3 years in a row, as soon as they open at 11am there's a long line. They've decided to order beforehand while waiting outside, but when half an hour has passed the restaurant loses all power! Apparently the block where the restaurant is located only has lost power and no one knows when it'll be back. It's no worth waiting outside, they've decided to check out the neibourhood until the power is back on.

    Checking out Dotonbori area.

    Checking out Dotonbori area.

Taylor and Annie have decided to explorer the town of Dotonbori and their eyes are immidiately caught by yummy looking takoyaki. This is an another soul food of Osaka, there's no way they're going to miss it! Then they find another delicious looking Kobe beef sushi on their way back to Mizuno and decide to try it out as well. OK, it's time to go eat okonomiyaki!, but instead they ask the shop staff for the best ramen shop nearby. Now they are headed to a ramen shop...

Getting stuffed while the power is down?

Taylor and Annie have arrived at the ramen shop recommended and order 1 bowl each, and eat it all without leaving a drop of soup! While they are eating the TV crew checks out the Mizuno restaurant but unfortunetally it's still closed. The stuff are very concerned that Taylor and Annie becomes too full eating too much food before okonomiyaki. But they seem to be happy anyway.

    They are non-stoppable!

    They are non-stoppable!

Taylor and Annie then stops at a kushikatsu restaurant! Of course they get a table without hesitation and even order a set meal for each! They've enjoyed a whole set of kushikatsu sticks following the rule of dipping a stick only once into the sauce.

    Japanese language is diffecult…

Taylor and Annie have both been huge funs of Pokemon since childhood and they hit it off immidiately talking about it when they first met at the Comic Market event 4 years ago. They are also fans of Japanese food and they could not think of other places to visit for their honeymoon. While they are enjoying the kushikatsu a group of people at another table have bought them a couple of beer to welcome them. The group then insists that Taylor and Annie try an eggplant stick, but apparently Annie doesn't like it. Then they recommend something else called "kiss" so Annie kisses Taylor but apparently "kiss" is the name of a fish in Japanese! The whole restaurant was filled with laughter.

    Power's back! Finally!

    Power's back! Finally!

After leaving the kushikatsu restaurant they go straight back to Mizuno but the power does not seem to be back yet. They have no choice but to walk around more then they find a Turkish ice cream shop where they are entertained by the staff of the shop. While enjoying the ice cream the TV crew notices that the power is back at Mizuno! The restaurant that they've been dreaming of has finally been reopened!

The okonomiyaki they have been dreaming of is right in front of them, but…

The okonomiyaki they have been dreaming of is right in front of them, but…

As soon as Taylor and Annie are seated they order 3 okonomiyaki dishes. The first one is the restaurant's speciality, yamaimoyaki! It's cooked by the staff right in front of them and they have the very first bite of their very first okonomiyaki in Japan. With a staff's recommendation Taylor decides to cook the next one on his own, and it's done perfectly! But something is wrong with them...they are too full! They've come all the way to Osaka to eat at this restaurant but because of all the other stuff they have eaten they are not able to continue eating any more of these delicious looking okonmiyaki.
